Context<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

Penja pepper is a major source of rural employment since it is almost entirely produced by impoveished smallholders with land of less than three hectares. Improving the economic situation of Penja pepper farmers is essential to accelerate progress toward eradicating poverty and poor living conditions.<\/p>\n

Cameroon aims to increase its export of Penja pepper and diversify its agricultural exports to regional and international niche markets and to achieve this, must be able to ensure continuous high quality products.\u202f\u202fThe promotion of best practices at all stages of the Penja pepper value chain, from production to export, will result in the production of good quality peppers that comply with international regulations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Goals<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

PPI is responsible for the technical evaluation of the project to improve the sanitary and phytosanitary quality of Penja pepper in Cameroon to facilitate access to international markets, implemented by COLEACP.<\/p>\n

The evaluation conducted by PPI aims to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Conduct a factual and independent assessment of the performance of the overall project.<\/li>\n
  • Identify possible lessons learned and propose practical recommendations for the remaining period of project implementation\/possible future interventions by COLEACP, other stakeholders, and other development partners more generally.<\/li>\n
  • Analyze project performance at the national level and identify best practices and successes.<\/li>\n
  • Compile information on the following: possible impact of the program on the volume of Penja pepper marketed (export market and local market) and identification of best practices and success stories that can be replicated or scaled up at the national or regional level.<\/li>\n
  • Analyze the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the project, assess the mitigation measures put in place by COLEACP, and provide recommendations on how to improve COLEACP’s and STDF’s response to the needs given the operational constraints imposed by the pandemic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
