Context<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

Detention conditions are very difficult in Madagascar, due to the excessive use of pre-trial detention, the dilapidated state of prisons and the overcrowding. Inmates are particularly affected by chronic malnutrition and poor hygiene conditions, with a high risk of deteriorating health after incarceration and limited access to health facilities. Among the prison population, the rate of tuberculosis cases is eight times higher than in the general population.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Goals<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

The general objective of the MIARINA project is to contribute to the improvement of the overall management of tuberculosis and HIV infection in prisons.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In particular, PPI’s intervention aims to implement an economic support system to promote post-prison reintegration and continuity of treatment<\/strong> in the 4 targeted prisons.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Through PPI\u2019s intervention,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  • 122 inmates with tuberculosis and or\/HIV receive economic support: training, support, coaching, follow-up.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • 47 prison workers are trained in economic reintegration.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
