Context<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

In Madagascar, one in three children under the age of five suffers from malnutrition, and two in three children under the age of two are undernourished. Malnutrition contributes to 45% of deaths among children under 5. In the Analanjirofo region, 31.1% of children under 5 suffer from chronic malnutrition and 7% of children under 5 suffer from acute malnutrition. The causes of these phenomena are poverty, urbanisation, climate change and poor food choices.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through the National Nutrition Office, a National Action Plan for Nutrition has been put in place by the government with the overall objective of reducing all forms of malnutrition in children under 5 through specific and sensitive nutrition interventions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Goals<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

The overall objective of the Hafa Velontegna project is to contribute to strengthening the resilience and improving the dietary diversity of households headed by vulnerable mothers<\/strong> (primarily of children aged 0-23 months).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In particular, PPI aims to support the improvement of optimal infant feeding practices and dietary diversity in Madagascar; and to promote the active participation of pregnant and lactating women and vulnerable mothers with children under 2 years of age in Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) giving them access to affordable financial mechanisms<\/strong> to contribute to their economic resilience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Beneficiaries<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

2,475 persons (90% of whom were women) in over 100 VSLAs were supported.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
