Context<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

Egypt has been through a lengthy transitional period of political\u202ftransformation that has had negative consequences on its economy.\u202fSome of these consequences include the withdrawal of investments\u202fand shutting down or shrinkage of many businesses and sectors that used to\u202fabsorb large numbers of skilled and unskilled youth, such as tourism.\u202fMoreover, this has coincided with the return of significant amounts of\u202fEgyptian expatriates from Libya and Iraq due to political turmoil. All of\u202fthese events have resulted in a significant rise in unemployment in Egypt\u202fover the past few years.\u200b<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Goals<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

The general objective of the SAGE project was to contribute towards a more enabling environment for sustainable inclusive economic\u202fgrowth in Egypt, fostered through effective and innovative civil society actions which\u202fdeliver enhanced Business Development Services.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In particular, PPI aims to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Enhance the performance of 60 microenterprises (start-ups and existing) in three\u202fEgyptian governorates; and promote their capacity to provide job opportunities for\u202f900 youth, through tailored business development services provided by 12 Egyptian\u202fCSOs (10 community-based\u202forganisations\u202fand 2 farmers cooperatives).<\/li>\n
  • Test 3 new modalities for the delivery of\u202fnon-financial\u202fservices to MSMEs: mobile-based coaching application in\u202fMinya, micro-franchising in\u202fBeni\u202fSueif, and vouchers\u202fscheme in\u202fSohag.\u200b<\/li>\n
  • Promote the employability of 1000 unemployed youth through capacity building,\u202fvocational and administrative trainings, and linking them to the labour market.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Beneficiaries<\/h3><\/div>\n\t
      \n
    • 1080 youth (75% women) received Vocational and Administrative Training, of which 380 got employed<\/li>\n
    • 92 women and 59 men micro-entrepreneurs received coaching\/mentorship and entrepreneurship training<\/li>\n
    • 1 central Entrepreneurship Development Support Unit & 12 branches were strengthened on Entrepreneurship, Micro-Franchise and Micro-Finance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
