Context<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

Until 2019, vanilla producers in the SAVA region have enjoyed better living conditions compared to other rural populations in Madagascar, thanks to high market prices for vanilla. But conditions have changed dramatically since the price of vanilla began to decline in the last quarter of 2019, with the government of Madagascar imposing price controls in February 2020 to prevent a market collapse. Stocks, overproduction, artificially high prices and a high level of uncertainty related to COVID-19 disrupting international demand all negatively impact the outlook for vanilla producers in Madagascar. This situation underlines the importance of improving income flows for vanilla producers, who continue to struggle with food insecurity and with the increasing impacts of climate-change on their livelihood.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Goals<\/h3><\/div>\n\t

The overall objective of the project is to promote the improvement of the living conditions of vanilla producers while fostering sustainable vanilla production and livelihood strategies.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Specifically, PPI aims to:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Develop and disseminate ecologically sustainable agricultural practices compatible with vanilla cultivation at the level of smallholders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Strengthen the resilience of vanilla-producing communities in anticipation of economic shocks linked to falling prices.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Promote social and economic inclusion in the community with an increased focus on gender and children.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
