Ongoing project

Donors : Banque Européenne d’Investissement

Duration : 2 years (2019-2021)

Budget : 2 507 440 USD

Context

The countries of the Middle East and North Africa region all show different levels of economic growth and development, they also all experience high levels of unemployment and poverty, particularly among young people and women. This situation is exacerbated by reduced tourism and persistent safety problems. In this context, the European Neighbourhood Policy emphasises the importance of micro, small and medium-sized businesses (MSMBs) in economic growth and the need to improve the operating environment, the availability of credit and to foster more inclusive economic growth for MSMBs.

Goals

Promote responsible financial inclusion of people in the countries south of the European Union in order to reduce poverty, encourage entrepreneurship and increase stability in the region.

Beneficiaries

Financial institutions through the design, development and implementation of effective training programmes, improvement of financial and operational performance, adoption of risk management practices, active management of social performance and adherence to the SMART campaign and consumer protection principles.
