Context

Lebanon is facing unprecedented multidimensional predicaments. While the country has been suffering from continuing instability for the past decades, this situation has been largely aggravated by the multiple crises that have occurred since the last quarter of 2019. The massive explosion in Beirut’s port, the Covid-19 global pandemic and successive lockdowns, rising political instability and the economic collapse have contributed to the rise of extreme poverty in the country.

This situation is affecting the livelihoods of groups in the population that were already vulnerable. Women are especially affected as they are more represented in the economic sectors that have been hit hard by the sanitary crisis.

Besides, Lebanon faces a serious skills mismatch, which should be addressed to strengthen the local start-up support ecosystem and foster the emergence of sustainable enterprises in Lebanon.

Goals

The general objective of the project is to support innovation, employment and economic growth in Lebanon.

More specifically, the project aims to strengthen the local start-up ecosystem in Lebanon through providing capacity building to existing and emerging innovation support organizations, with a specific focus on those working on tech and digitalisation entrepreneurship.

Beneficiaries

The project aims to train 25 employees from business support organisations.
